Tell, lion, whose tomb do you guard, you slayer of cattle? And who was worthy of your valour?

Happy October everyone.
This beautiful month is actually here. It's a bit hot and sunny in my city but i don't care.
Also my country does not celebrate Halloween. But i still don't care, it's October!
Although today i have a post about my summer adventures.
Let's travel to the Greece of the past.

Let's see, what happened in Pompeii and Herculaneum (Italy) almost 1,933 years ago, when Mount Vesuvius erupt.

Hello everyone!!

Vesuvius now

Today's post is not about me.
It is about a famous volcano and two of the cities it destroyed.
Let's travel to the past - one of the cheapest ways to travel - and see what happened.
We will go to Italy and more specific to the famous Vesuvius volcano
A deadly, silent for now, giant who destroyed back then two towns.

Sure i love to travel, but there is no place like home

In 1912 Thessaloniki was free again to continue its course in history. In this October (2012) we will celebrate the liberation of our city from Turks before 100 years. I have a special bond with my city and usually no one understands it. So here, let me present you some pictures of my beloved home.

You have to know the past to understand the present

We had a London weather for 4, i think, straight days, actually is still raining!
Water is all over the streets and i decide to stay home and not go to town for any reason. Thank god my best friend's house is only 2 minutes away with the bus, so i didn't had to use an umbrella cause, well i don't have one. I need to buy 2 actually. One for the rain and one parasol for the sun.

I want a room decorated with bones

Well catacombs fascinate me and my last study for university it is about them. Some people found them macabre, i look at them as an extremely natural and beautiful art. The view of the catacombs and of the mummies, make me realize the idea of temporality and the assumption that eventually we all gonna die :D

[there is a great sample]

There are catacombs in Paris, in Italy, in Greece, in Egypt, in Spain, in Malta, in Peru. So many to visit one day! Catacombs, human-made subterranean passageways for religious practice. Any chamber used as a burial place can be described as a catacomb, although the word is most commonly associated with the Roman empire. Many are under cities and have been popularized by stories of their use as war refuges, smugglers' hideouts, or meeting places for cults.
Capuchin catacombs of Palermo, Sicily were used as late as 1920s. Catacombs were available in some of the grander English cemeteries founded in the 19th Century, such as Sheffield General Cemetery (above ground) and West Norwood Cemetery (below ground).

Victorian Hairstyles

Cliff House, San Francisco

The Cliff House was severely damaged by a dynamite explosion when the schooner, Parallel, ran aground. The blast was heard a hundred miles away and demolished the entire north wing of the tavern. The building was repaired, but was later completely destroyed on Christmas night 1894 due to a defective flue. The Cliff House survived the 1906 earthquake with little damage but burned to the ground on the evening of September 7, 1907.

The house overlooks the site of the former Sutro Baths and a room-sized camera obscura and is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, operated by the National Park Service.

Above all this was a beautiful house. It feels like they build it "in the air", looks like a floating ghost above  the rocks and the sea. Also among others, old pictures is one of my passion. I don't know why i like them so much. Maybe cause they remind me of my past life? i don't know.. but is a kind of art for me, and a beautiful one.
