It's you again! What a pleasant surprise!

When i have some extra money, i always find myself buying books! More often i try to buy second hand books, i love how old they look, so i am looking for places like a little graphic book-store with second hand books or an antique shop!! And yes i have a library with books which costs generally more than 2 months rent, i admit it, but buying books makes me more happy than buying for example clothes. So one day after meeting my best friend, i found a old book store with this beautiful Edgar Allan Poe's book , translated to greek language. I immediately bought it cause my mind and heart was already in love with it (even though i have so many books by him already!) and i wanted so much for my personal collection!!! This particulate book was published in 1979 and from that time this book made his journey to end up in my hands in a very bad shape though... People dont treat books the way the have to.. with respect and that makes me sad!

The books is a wonderful copy with a beautiful and very suitable illustration in front!

Some of the stories in the book :

The Black Cat - published 1843
The narrator and his wife own several pets. Among them is a large black cat named Pluto. One day, in a drunken rage, the narrator blinds Pluto in one eye, and then later hangs the cat from a tree. Mysteriously, the house burns to the ground, leaving a silhouetted mark of a cat hanging from a gallows. Later, our narrator acquires another cat eerily similar to Pluto. Again, incensed with drink, he attempts to kill the cat but murders his wife instead, hiding her body in a cellar wall. When the police come sniffing around they’re drawn to a wailing sound coming from the wall. They then discover the wife’s body, atop which sits the screeching black cat, condemning its master for his terrible crime.

The Fall of the House of Usher - published 1839
An unnamed narrator arrives at the home of reclusive basket case Roderick Usher and his sickly twin sister Madeline. Roderick suffers from extreme sensitivity to light and sound, anxiety and hypochondria. Madeline suffers from a wasting disease, and she eventually dies and is buried in the family crypt within the cavernous mansion. On a stormy night, the narrator and Roderick begin to hear screeching and crashing noises in the house. We learn that cataleptic Madeline had not died when she was buried, and she has returned to confront her mad brother, who in turn dies of fright. The narrator then flees as the cursed house is swallowed by the murky bog.

 Ligeia - Published 1838
The story follows an unnamed narrator and his wife Ligeia, a beautiful and intelligent raven-haired woman. She falls ill, composes "The Conqueror Worm", and quotes lines attributed to Joseph Glanvill (which suggest that life is sustainable only through willpower) shortly before dying. After her death, the narrator marries the Lady Rowena. Rowena becomes ill and she dies as well. The distraught narrator stays with her body overnight and watches as Rowena slowly comes back from the dead – though she has transformed into Ligeia. The story may be the narrator's opium-induced hallucination and there is debate whether the story was a satire. After the story's first publication in The American Museum, it was heavily revised and reprinted throughout Poe's life.

  2. Oh, nice books! I'm currently reading the parody novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is basically Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice with some added zombie fiction. I admire you for reading these books especially given the quite old-fashioned English most of them are written in. I mean, I'm having trouble following Pride and Prejudice even with the zombies added for a little fun. But these books look great, as well as the latter two illustrations. :)
