Oh, they're hopeless, a disgrace to the forces of evil.

Hey you all.
I had some amazing days, including my birthday on the 8th and
i would be ungrateful if i was about to write the opposite.
In fact it began during the late days of January but more on that in a future post.
Today i will show you my experiments with make up
and a wonderful book i own since this summer.

I found this Johnson's baby cream - Smoothing Naturals
for dry skin and i thought to give it a try since my face has this new need for hydration
and this set by OriflameMilk and Honey Gold
( Shower Cream and Body Lotion ) was a gift from my grandma.

I tried also to recreate one of my most favourite villain's make up, Maleficent [x]
Of course i don't claim to be an pro but it was fun! :D
More fun when i tried to wash all this madness away :P

I bought this book around summer,
i read it and forgot completely to show it to you guys.
It is a gorgeous big book with so many information and pictures about
the Victorian and Edwardian fashion
It was on my list for a while and i was super excited when i got it!!

A photographic Survey by Alison Gernsheim.
A  lovely collection of old photographs (235 illustrations)
every admirer, of fashion in those two eras, must have.

And now, let's talk about two movies i saw some months back.
1. Mama (2013) and 2. Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)

I saw the name Guillermo del Toro as an executive producer in this movie [the director of one of my favourite movies "El laberinto del fauno"(2006)] and i watched it without any hesitation. Well, it was not what i expected. A wonderful atmosphere till the time they brought up the special effects of the.. mom. Seemed pretty fake to me (with all this hight technology they have, they end up turning a "horror" movie into a cartoon) and i did not like the story that much (it was obvious what was going on!). But i watched it mostly because of the cast. Also it had an interesting end. ★★✩✩

I love old films. I love the stories, the actors, the costumes. The protagonists will make sure they properly pass all the feelings to you through their actions. Love, sadness, every possible feeling will get away from the screen and directly into you. Whenever i feel down, seeing and old classic film will cheer me up, even if it a sad movie. Those films bring me joy and they never let me down.

One of the many i adore is Arsenic and Old Lace (1944). Funny and macabre in it's own beautiful way, with hilarious dialogues and a clever story. Amazing old school protagonists in a black and white wonderful story. It's a long movie (118 min) but it will not bore you.. to death :P ★★★★

And with a little help, this might be the final result. Anyway, until the next post, take care people.

  1. Arsenic and Old Lace για πάντα:-D Για το Mama έχω γράψει κι εγώ τα χειρότερα - ελπίζω το Crimson Peak να είναι καλύτερο (προκαταβολικά να πω ότι θα το δω ανεξαρτήτως σεναρίου, λόγω Tom Hiddleston - αδυναμίες είναι αυτές).

:D Οσο για το μακιγιάζ ειπα να κρατήσω αυθεντικά όλo το too much make up της Maleficent απο την disney αλλά σε καμία περίπτωση δεν θα εβγαινα έτσι έξω :Ρ

  2. You are very talented with your makeup! I own that book. I quite agree that it is wonderful. I think that Victorian and Edwardian fashions are so lovely, though I feel like the intention to impress and conform is silly. As I say- Dress to impress? No! Dress for success? No! Dress to express! (Or dress to depress. :P) And being inspired by such fashions that I enjoy, including Victorian and Goth styles, is self-expression and art to me. I completely agree, as well, about old movies; I personally find them much better than newer ones.

    1. I like their aesthetics from both eras. At least what i see is beautiful. Rich women tried indeed to impress with their clothes/ accessories/ hair etc but who doesn't do that? Not to mention in our days, people actually dress to impress. Good or bad is something that people will do, as long as they have the money.. to impress. Fashion nowadays is repulsive to me, call me crazy but 90% of what people call fashion i call garbage. :/ I like simplicity and now everything is too much.

    2. Oh, yes, I agree that it still goes on today... I don't mean, of course, that's it particular to that era, I merely mean in general. I think all the elaborate designs of Victorian fashion are so beautiful! I agree that the fashion of today is repulsive, in my eyes as well. And I think, again, that the pressure to wear something from society is ridiculous... Of course, it can't be helped, but at least we don't have to conform to it.~^-^

    3. I am sorry, i re-read my comment, i hope i didn't sound snob or anything :P I totally understand your thoughts about it. Oh and about today's fashion, at least we are able to see the past one's and decide what we want to wear. That is a kind of a blessing, mostly because we have the opportunity to dress ourselves how we like and not by the society standards. (When at least that is possible) Then it is all about the people who dear to wear what they want. ^-^
